An antique early 19th century Tudor style fireplace in Portland stone, with simple moulded shelf. The frieze carved with interlocking plaited circles and lozenges, carved with alternating Tudor roses and in the lozenges with armorial shields. The opening framed by carved spandrels and rounded side mouldings. The Tudor Style was popularised in fashion and architecture by Ackermann's highly influential illustrated periodical Repository, published between 1809 and 20, where the inspiration for this design came from.
