A 19th Century Carved Oak Chimneypiece in the Manner of William Kent
A splendid carved oak antique fireplace of large and imposing proportions in the manner of of the Neo Palladian architect William Kent. The breakfront shelf with an acanthus leaf motif is separated from the frieze by a dentil molding. The central tablet, depicting the mask of Apollo surrounded by a sunburst, is flanked by foliage, while urns are carved on the cornerblocks. The projecting console jambs are decorated with rich fruit garlands, and the 'eared' opening is framed by a flower ornament.
