An early 19th century, English statuary marble fireplace of simple but very pleasing architectural design, in the manner of Sir John Soane. This plays on the effects of light and shadows caused by the simple but highly effective geometric design. Circa 1810.
The moulded rectangular shelf above the frieze which is centred with raised oval. Carved on a rectangular tablet which is flanked by a band of rounded ribs, which are replicated on the pilaster jambs, which are raised on blocks, the opening with moulded aperture.
