Statuary marble chimney piece, Irish Georgian circa 1820. The shallow moulded shelf sits above a recessed and stepped frieze. The jambs are carved with arched moulded panels headed by moulded capitals and with subsidiary inner half columns raised on squared moulded blocks. Formally in one of the fine Georgian houses in Fitswilliam Square, Dublin, this chimney piece would have graced one end of one of the principal drawing rooms.
