An Early 19th Century Chimneypiece in Spanish Brocatello and Statuary White Marble

An English Regency chimneypiece in Spanish Brocatello and Statuary white marble. The rectangular shelf with rounded corners above the frieze with a centre tablet carved with a reclining figure of Diana the virgin huntress, wearing a short tunic, her hair tied back, her bow and quiver beside her, a hunting dog at her feet, symbolic of faithfulness. She was one of the twelve gods and goddesses of Olympus, and the personification of Chastity. This is flanked by Brocatello panels. The jambs in the form of pilasters inlaid with Brocatello framed by Statuary with circular paterae blockings above. The whole raised on foot blocks.
