A 19th Century Columned Chimneypiece in Siena and White Statuary Marbles.
A handsome early 19th century chimneypiece of Siena and Statuary marbles with columns and attractive carving. The moulded shelf sits above a frieze centred with a tablet in Statuary depicting a tazza shaped, lidded urn. This is flanked by a fine display of drapery carving.
The frieze and jambs are inlaid with milky Giallo Siena marble. Well proportioned Doric columns stand on squared footblocks, while cornerblocks carved with oval paterae sit above. A simple moulding frames the opening.
