A Neoclassical style Chimneypiece with Precious Marbles

A charming Neoclassical-style chimneypiece of good proportions, carved in white statuary marble with coloured marbles inlays during the late 19th / early 20th century. The fine central tablet shows a laurel crown and bell-flower garlands with ribbons; the frieze, which supports an elegant tiered shelf, is inlaid with high-quality Jasper marble, and it ends with Bardiglio cornerblocks, superbly sculpted with bucranium masks of an ox skull. The jambs, in the shape of Classical pilasters, are inlaid with exquisite Siena marble.
