A 19th Century Statuary White Marble Chimneypiece with Greek Key Frieze
A fine Regency period chimneypiece in white Statuary marble of generous scale, the frieze decorated with incised Greek Key carvings, flanked by elegant corbels, enriched with carved laurel. The Jambs simply decorated with fielded panels and the whole supported by moulded footblocks. The piece is reminiscent of the architectural style of Sir John Soane and is akin to those seen at his country home, Pitzhanger Manor, with its arrestingly modern use of the Greek Key.
