An Exquisite Early 19th Century White Marble Chimneypiece

An imposing architectural chimneypiece in white statuary marble, the stepped frieze interrupted by a twisted bead at the centre, an egg & dart motif supporting the shelf, carved with enriched beading and very lightly engraved with acanthus leaves. The jambs, in the shape of squared plinths, show the fine acanthus leaf motif on the capital.
The restrained design of this composition allows the quality of the carved details to stand out.
