A Pair of Regency Bird's-Eye Maple Bergeres

SOLD

A fine pair of Regency bergere armchairs, c.1825, with ebony inlay and horsehair, overstuff upholstery and squab cushions. The turned front legs are carved with the downturned-lotus motif and terminate in brass castors, the rear legs elegantly raking. The shaped back slopes elegantly into scrolling arms faced with maple, inlaid with ebony paterae and a neo-classical scheme typical in style and execution, of works associated with the finest of contemporary designers and craftsmen, such as George Bullock and Thomas Hope.
