A Pair of 18th Century Wheelback Chairs with Original Painted Decoration

£36,000

Of outstanding quality and poise, with x-frame supports and slatted saddle seats; the splats formed as wheels, with turned baluster spokes and an elegant patera boss. The decoration in breathtaking condition, having been painstakingly dry-stripped to reveal chalky white surface and faint green roundels and floral swags across face of the legs and down the sides of each back.

With Mallett at Bourdon House in 1976. See image below of the chairs advertised in Country Life May 1976.
