A Gesso and Pine Late Nineteenth Century Chimneypiece

Finely carved gesso acanthus leaves sweep over the bolection curve along with pansies on fine, spritely stems. For all its ebullience, this carving is held within strict lines and stands upon two simple foot blocks. A near identical chimneypiece, meticulously hand stripped in a similar manner, can be seen in Petworth House.
