A Richly Carved Pine, George II Palladian Chimneypiece

A superb 18th century, George II, Palladian carved pine antique chimneypiece, circa 1750. With breakfront stepped moulded shelf, the frieze centred with a rectangular plaque carved in deep relief with a head of Phoebus (Radiant) Apollo on a sun burst, portrayed as a young beardless God with delicate effeminate features, his long hair tied under his chin and flanked by a laurel swag. The flanking side panels with scrolling acanthus. The jambs in the form of elongated curved acanthus decorated brackets the volutes draped with full blown summer flowers surmounted by rectangular blocks. The opening with carved egg and dart mouldings. The whole on later replacement foot blocks.
