Klismos Bench II
A window seat of Klismos form with wooden slatted seat, made from American walnut. Whilst the Klismos form of seat furniture derives from ancient Greek designs, it was revived again during both the 19th and 20th centuries. Of particular note is the extravagant Villa Kerylos, a mansion built in 1902 in the style of the classical Greek, for Théodore Reinach, a well know archaeologist. The Villa, built at Beaulieu-sur-Mer, is based on an Athenian villa that was built during the 2nd century BC on the island of Delos. The furniture, designed by Pontramoli, echoed the Greek forms.
