Jamb Hanbury fireplace

Hanbury

This generous, imposing, Palladian style Portland stone fireplace features double carved, scrolled volute jambs, decorated with fluted scrolls and acanthus leaves. The Palladian style was based on the works of Andrea Palladio (1508–1580); brought to England by Inigo Jones (1573–1652) and later revived by Lord Burlington and his protégé William Kent (1684–1748) to particular effect at Chiswick House.
