Jamb Montague fireplace

Montague

This simple fluted chimneypiece is enriched by the decoratively carved capitals and central tablet. The use of grape laden vines and their classical association with Baccus, the Roman god of wine, as decoration could indicate that in originality this surround was intended for a late 18th Century or Early 19th Century ‘eating parlour’.
