This white marble fireplace of strong architectural form is after a design by Sir John Soane (1753–1837), who had adapted an earlier design of Inigo Jones. The rectangular moulded shelf above a plain heavily and deeply moulded frieze with a geometric design continuing down the jambs. The original antique chimneypiece was at the Bank of England.
