A superb, white-painted Pine George III chimneypiece. Detailed lattice work adorns the frieze which supports a tiered, breakfront shelf projecting over the tablet. The eared header and jambs feature foliate garlands, carved in high relief and surround a central urn acanthus cartouche. A detailed egg and dart moulding runs along the inner frame. The whole piece rests on stepped footblocks.

The piece was carved for Campsall Hall near Doncaster, designed by the architect John Carr and built in 1762-64, with later alterations. It was later acquired by Captain Christopher Wake-Walker, in 1971 at the auction of his cousin's belongings, Helen Marjorie Walker, after her death. She had inherited it from Mary Peel, the second wife of Frederick Bacon Frank, who had died in 1942. From 1971 it was at East Bergholt Lodge, Captain Wake-Walker's family home through his mother.
