A 17th Century, English, Jacobean, Carved Portland Stone Antique Fireplace Mantel

A 17th Century, English, Jacobean, carved Portland stone antique fireplace mantel, of simple architectural design. The plain tiered and moulded shelf above the tall, rectangular frieze, which is decorated in the lower section with a carved horizontal band of geometric strap work. The squared inset opening with a gently sloping triangular shaped header surmounted by leaf decorated spandrels, supported by jambs canted on the inside and outside returns.
