A Refined, Early 18th Century Irish Chimneypiece in vivid Kilkenny Marble
An early 18th century Irish antique fireplace in the manner of William Colles (1702–1770). The mantelpiece is of simple but timeless architectural form, in black Kilkenny marble flecked with white fossils of shells and coral. The frieze with fluted central keystone flanked by inset lozenges, upheld by geometric decorated jambs, the soffit of the opening with inverted scrolls.
