An elegant, French, 19th century, Baroque style chimneypiece in Caen stone
A French 17th century Baroque style antique fireplace designed with typical refined classicism of the period and carved with vigour subtlety and elegance in honey coloured Caen stone. Late 19th century, early 20th century. The freize decorated with a contra vitruvian scroll with acanthus leaves, the jambs with scroll console shaped legs decorated with more acanthus. The moulded shelf topped with a central S-shaped pedestal, for a bust, with leaf decoration and flanked by horizontal brackets.
