Jamb’s hanging lanterns in the new advertising campaign.

I always find that when a piece pre-dates machinery, it holds a deeper resonance, especially when observing the hand-tooled workings of an antique chimneypiece. When purchasing an antique chimneypiece of this nature, it becomes evident that you are not just buying a surround, but a unique work of art – indeed, a masterpiece.

The Attingham is the quintessential cylindrical lantern, cast in solid brass using the lost wax process. Four ‘S’ curved arms bear unusual square and stepped decorative details and terminate in incised and turned finials. This timeless lantern exudes elegance on an impressive scale, and can be patinated in any of our hand finishes.

The Baillie hanging lantern in Antique Verdigris, seen here between two classical Ionic columns, blends harmoniously within the rich and aged patina of this outdoor setting. Much of the design of the Baillie, however, is inspired by the Arts and Crafts aesthetic movement and is named after the prolific designer Baillie Scott (1865-1945). I am very much inspired by Scott and endeavour to incorporate his philosophy into my own reproduction designs: honouring craftsmanship whilst remaining faithful to the material and function.

This tapered and moulded lantern is inspired by the Gothic designs of Bridgens (1785-1846). Shown here in the Antique Brown Bronze finish, it is one of our larger-sized lanterns and pays homage to the ornate principles of the Jacobean Revival style. In the short time that it has been in the collection, it is proving to be a favourite.

The Mercury was conceived as a simplified version of the Convex globe, which is synonymous with Jamb. Crafted from hand-moulded copper, it is finished here in Brown Bronze, although it is available in over eleven finishes. With the Link Broken, we removed the small ocular panes around the meridian, which accentuates the refined nature of the simple double band. The clean lines of the spherical lantern work well in any environment, and although we have put it in a classical setting, it has become a popular design for contemporary interiors as well.
