This week the blog is posted from New York. I have never arrived without my heart racing as the New York skyline comes into view. This city is one I adore and where I met Charlotte all those years ago.

This week the blog is posted from New York. I have never arrived without my heart racing as the New York skyline comes into view. This city is one I adore and where I met Charlotte all those years ago.

The skyline of New york with Central Park

At Jamb, we have been lucky to work with many extraordinary clients supplying fireplaces and lighting. This week we spent a week visiting sites on various projects we have been working on in NYC. We stayed uptown, and it was wonderful to be close to Central Park and the Museums. I always love to pay a visit to the Frick Collection and to see the Neue Museum, and even managed to run into the Met to see the wonderful new exhibition China, Through the Looking Glass.

A Neoclassical Palace of Art: The Metropolitan Museum

Every day, our alternate appointments took us up and down Manhattan. It is impossible to ever get bored with New York’s architecture. Both in scale and style, the variations are seemingly endless. Brownstone town, it was a shell, houses, Park Avenue Apartments with iconic views worthy of the finest dreams.

A client invited us to see his family home completed after three years of construction. Last time I saw the building it was a shell and now we were welcomed into the complete vision, perfected with three small children. With a beautiful glass of chilled White wine in hand, we ascended floor by floor, viewing each room.

We supplied seven fireplaces for this project, with the interior design led by David Flintwood. It was wonderful to see them in their living environment.

In the kitchen, they went with the Ashley in white marble. A finely carved linear piece, simple but with complex mouldings.

The Kentmere Fireplace in Bardiglio Marble

The living room was magnificent with the Kentmere in Bardiglio Marble. Strong and bold with the Greek key motif and statuary columns. This was a bespoke fireplace as normally it comes in the Sienna, a precious yellow marble used for inlay but in this case we felt the grey and white Bardiglio marble was perfect.

The Bolection fireplace in the library

It worked so well to have the classic clean lines of the bolection fireplaces in the dining room and library.

In the bedrooms, they chose the elegant English Regency style. The perfect pitch for the master was our refined Pelham design.

And lastly, in the master bedroom, they had the Longbourn. The romance only heightened by open wood fires, as well as gas fires in the house to guard against the New York winter.

It will be so exciting to return to New York next time to see the completion of the projects we have been working on this week using our fire surrounds and lighting range.
