An Early 18th Century Lead statue of A Dancing Faun, Northern European, in the Manner of Adriaen de Vries
£75,000
Flourishing a pair of hand cymbals, traditional elements of the Bacchanalian performance, head turned, and leg raised, wearing a vine girdle.
The 'Dancing Satyr', or Kroupezeion, at the Uffizi, provides a context for the piece, while De Vries' 'Juggling Man', in which the hand cymbals are substituted for plates in part of a performance is a useful reference.
