An 18th Century Irish Chimneypiece in Kilkenny marble

A George III Irish chimneypiece in black Kilkenny marble featuring engaged columns, the breakfront tiered shelf is supported by plain frieze and tablet, and by cornerblocks carved with simple flowers. The jambs in the shape of Doric columns rest on squared footblocks, while a simple moulding frames the opening. A greater density of fossils on the central tablet creates a gentle contrast between this element and the rest of the chimneypiece.
