A Louis XVI Style Statuary White Marble Chimneypiece with Guilloche Frieze

A decoratively carved Statuary white marble chimneypiece of pleasing proportions. A simple breakfront shelf protrudes over corner blocks carved with flattened Corinthian capitals of carved acanthus. Between these is a frieze carved finely with running guilloche demonstrating different species of flower, bedded into a fielded panel. The jambs are fronted with tapering stop-flute pilasters filled with bell flowers. These rest on raised square footblocks. Provenance: Eaton Square, Baroness Rawling.
