White Coolie Shades

In 1859, gas fittings were introduced to the Houses of Parliament and the British public, after fifty years of distrust, saw this as confirmation that gas was the way forward. By the 1860s, much of fashionable London was installing gasoliers (gas pendant fittings with several burners) into their principal rooms.

The inspiration for the design of our Bellaport light comes not from these nineteenth-century gasoliers, however, but from an Edwardian wig and gown hanger, the stem and shoulders of which were carved beautifully with fluid, graceful mouldings.
