An Early 19th Century Painting of a Boxer Dog, circle of Sir Edwin Landseer (1802-1873)
SOLD
The graceful portrait of a seated dog looking to left, the soft fur finely described by delicate brush strokes, the shine on his nose and eyes giving the subject a sympathetic look.
The initials 'EL' on the left hand side of the canvas points in the direction of the animal painter Edwin Landseer, perhaps the pre-eminent animal artist of the Victorian era; a historic gallery label on the reverse of the canvas attributes the painting to Landseer.
