A 19th Century Indian Carved Ebony Table

An intricately carved folding table in the manner of the Muslim craftsmen of Nagina in Eastern India, and dating from c.1860. Similar in style to pieces in the Victoria and Albert museum, such as the inkstand made by Muhammend Abdullah in 1866 (01172(IS)), and also to Nagina-made furniture displayed at the Great Exhibition in 1851.
The ebony surface dry and untouched, with a sleepiness which lends enormous charm to the busy decoration found all over this useful occasional table.
