A George II Mahogany Gainsborough Armchair c.1750

A pleasing, mid-18th century example of the Gainsborough chair, with parcel-gilt ball-and-claw feet and acanthus decoration. The cabriole back legs terminating in pad feet, and also adorned with gilded foliate decoration. Stripped of later upholstery to reveal calico covering original horsehair stuffing. In excellent overall condition, the mahogany rich and dark, and in overall dry, untouched condition.
