A George III Chinoiserie Giltwood Mirror main image

A George III Chinoiserie Giltwood Mirror

£10,800

A strikingly beautiful mirror; the original gilded surface revealed by careful dry stripping. In form, akin to the designs of John and William Linnell (see drawing below, in the V&A), which blend a strictness of line with whimsical c-scrolls and creeping foliage. Rococo elements emerging from a Classical frame. Gothic pinnacles adorn the top corners, further enriching the design, which is, in spite of its complexity, highly pleasing.
