A Late 19th Century Ziegler Carpet, c.1880

Richly coloured, and decorated with confident, broadly-spaced palmettes, this carpet is archetypal of the early Ziegler & Co style. Of useful scale, and rich, earthy tones, with a sienna border enclosing a grey-brown field, foliate detailing in Prussian blue and umber. The pile remains thick and soft, worn pleasantly in places.
