A substantial Ziegler & Co 'Mahal' carpet, the deep, inky ground richly decorated with traditional palmettes and other motifs, in bright, clear colours. The border warm-hued with fine details.
Whilst earlier Ziegler carpets were woven with a white weft, later examples, known as Mahals, used a blue weft, creating a bolder overall palette. This carpet likely from the 1890s, the pile stable but worn to the ideal state, the palette softly aged.
