A 19th Century Miniature Anglo-Indian Sadeli Work Cabinet-on-Chest

£12500

In the manner of the craftsmen of India’s west coast, particularly Surat and Bombay, this mid 19th century cabinet is intricately decorated with Sadeli-work, marquetry of ebony and horn, coloured green, with pen-work borders. The doors, mirrored internally, open to reveal seven sandalwood pigeonholes. Raised on ebony bun feet.

For comparables, see Lot 238, Christie’s ‘Style & Spirit’, 16th September 2014, and Lot 94, and Sotheby’s ‘Important Euro Dec Arts’, 18th November 2011, Lot 257.
