A 19th Century Grey Bardiglio Marble Chimneypiece with Ionic Pilasters

A 19th century chimneypiece carved in richly veined grey Bardiglio marble, defined by Ionic pilasters with volute capitals. The Ionic order, associated with balance and elegance, was widely adopted in Neoclassical interiors for its architectural clarity, and the use here reflects the 19th century's continued admiration for Greco-Roman design. A plain tablet, thin unmoulded shelf, undecorated frieze, and simple rectangular footblocks complete the piece. The Bardiglio marble, prized for its dramatic veining, adds depth and texture to the otherwise restrained composition.
