A 19th Century Breche Violette and Statuary White Marble Chimneypiece with Engaged Columns and a Central Tablet
An architectural 19th Century chimneypiece in the Palladian style with variegated Breche Violette and Statuary marbles, and a restrained architectural form. The sumptuous Breche frieze is centred with a rectangular tablet of gently veined Carrara marble which drops into the upper member of the architrave. A shelf breaks forward over projecting Breche corner blocks which themselves sit above well carved tapering three quarter engaged Doric columns carved in solid Breche Violette. The whole raised on foot blocks. The piece is akin to pieces carved earlier by the likes of Sir Henry Cheere (1703–1781).
