A 19th Century Louis XVI Style Chimneypiece in Portoro Nero Marble
A dominant 19th century chimneypiece carved entirely in Portoro Nero marble. The extraction of this extravagant marble began at the time of the Roman Empire and is still quarried to this day. The piece exhibits square fielded corner blocks upheld by sturdy acanthus leaf corbels. The frieze similarly includes fielded panels to either side of a central bullseye motif.
