An Early-19th Century French Stone Chimneypiece
A Louis XVI style chimneypiece finely carved as a celebration of arable framing. A central tablet is carved with a shovel and rake which represent the sowing and harvesting of bounteous crops. The corner blocks depict sheaves of wheat. The frieze either side of the tablet is carved with panels bordered by reel and bead moulding, and a rope twist underpins the whole. The tapering stop-flute pilaster jambs rest on raised vertical footblocks.
