This Baroque Portland stone fireplace of strong architectural form is based on a design by Batty Langley (1691–1751). The dynamic sense of movement is caused by the exploitation of light and shade produced by the deep rounded curves on the bolection mouldings and interlocking quoins of the jambs and frieze.
