N390

A fine late Georgian architectural Irish chimneypiece celebrating Siena marble, circa 1800.

The frieze panels and jambs all faced with veneered panels of richly figured, book matched convent Siena, balanced by elegant bullnose bed moulds, a plain shelf, central tablet and foot blocks in statuary marble. Siena continues to be a rarefied raw material which was highly favoured by architects of the period, and the technique of veneering and book matching allows the design to exhibit the most beautiful specimen.
