I203

A 19th century Italian statuary and Breche Violette marble chimneypiece, after a 17th century original in Pietra Serena at the Uffizi Gallery, Florence. The cornice shelf is carved with rich egg & dart and dentils, above a running frieze carved in very refined relief. The central coat of arms bears a shield with a single “Leone Rampante” encircled with a laurel wreath, held aloft by a pair of winged putti. These are flanked in the corners by Imperial eagles in the Rousant position. The frieze is supported by deep S scroll consoles enriched with acanthus. The jambs are carved with fruits of the harvest; pine, wheat, oak and orchard fruits displayed in Roman vases. The chimneypiece retains the original inground in Breche Violette.
