A Strong Renaissance Style Chimneypiece in Portland Stone and Contrasting Brocatello Marble

A Renaissance style antique fireplace in Portland stone and Brocatello marble. The Brocatello marble frieze with a central face mask of a pretty female, probably an Aurora mask, symbolic of dawn, and above, the shelf is deeply carved with egg and dart mouldings. The jambs are in the form of inverted obelisks with Ionic caps and acanthus decoration the whole supported by foot blocks. The opening with arched shoulders with twisted rope and foliate decoration.
