Regency style mahogany side chair. Each with strigulated tablet back and reeded rails with urn finials red linen upholstered padded seats supported on turned and reeded tapering legs and sabre legs to the back. These regency reproductions are related to designs in the Greek revival taste for armchairs illustrated in Thomas Hope’s Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1807, plate XX, numbers 3 and 4. The pattern was described by Hope as “after the manner of the ancient curule chairs”.
