An exceptional, intricately carved, Statuary and Sienna, Regency chimneypiece

A very fine Regency period chimneypiece in statuary marble, decorated with the Bacchic iconography. The breakfront moulded shelf above a running frieze bearing carved arabesque vines and bunches of grapes, centred by an oval tablet with a supine Bacchic maiden. The legs with further finely carved vines, capped by stylised Corinthian capitals, the whole on square plinth footblocks. Carved in Italy for the English market.
