A Compact and Fine Pair of French Empire Style Chimneypieces
A compact and very fine, identical pair of carved statuary marble fireplaces in the early 19th century French Empire style. Each fireplace is elliptic is shape, including the side returns, jambs, frieze and shelf, this is most unusual. The frieze has delicate and well-carved foliate looped garlands, the jambs with tapering fluted pilasters, terminated with stiff acanthus leaf capitals. Side returns are curved and have raised and fielded panels. Circa 1810.
