New Jamb Additions to the Reproduction Collections.
17 August 2018

As summer draws to an end my mind inevitably starts thinking about the Autumn launch of reproduction additions to the Jamb collection that we have been designing and developing. There are many chimneypieces and lighting designs that are still in development stage so recently the focus has been on furniture and grates.

I am accused by those who work with me about having fixations around certain pieces. There will be times when I seem to only buy console tables for the antique collections or there will be a sudden rush of hall chairs arriving at the Pimlico showroom.

In a sense, this is what happened with the grates. I suddenly had four wonderful antique pieces that I knew would be fantastic reproductions once I had tweaked the design to bring them into the modern world. We have made sure that in developing them we have kept the dry, aged patina on the reproductions and they look sublime.

The George II style Jacob basket is everything you’d want for in a country house grate with the large basket for logs and dry sleepy finish. The design has also been adapted wonderfully and is available in the form of andiron dogs as well.

We have also created the Asthall register grate, that offers another addition to this family of grates. Register grates are subject to a love or hate reaction with clients. When people do love them they tend to be used throughout the whole house and are brilliant at closing down the chamber sizes if there is a problem with ‘draw’. This design is more retrained and there is something totally appealing in their functionality.

The Harrold grate Is a handsome, robust design that has the same aged patina as the Jacob. Whereas the Jacob is landscape in shape, the Harrold is more portrait and upright yet extraordinarily masculine reflecting its roots in an earlier 18th Century design.

There have been a lot of projects recently where we installed both fireplaces and lighting and now the clients are returning to dress their houses. As many of these houses are in the English country house taste, it is timely that the additions to the furniture are the wonderful Howard style pieces, perfectly realised in the Millicent chair below covered in Michael Smith Jasper Fabric: Remy in Red, which we represent from our London Showroom.

Named in homage to the 19th Century suffragist Dame Millicent Fawcett, who was commemorated this year with the first female statue in Parliament Square. We also have the huge and ridiculously comfortable Howard style style sofa named the Stanley.

The thought of lighting the fire in our Jacob grate at home and sinking into the Stanley Howard style sofa, makes coming home from holiday just about bearable!
