A 17th century Italian chimneypiece in a highly decorative Macchia Vecchia marble of variegated hues of orange, pinks and dark greys and blacks.

Of typical serpentine form, the frieze carved with a well drawn scallop shell, the attribute of Venus, Goddess of love and fertility, this is flanked by inlaid grey marble C-scrolls and black lozenges, the faceted pilaster jambs plain showing off the rich colour of this marble.
