A 19th Century Palladian Revival Chimneypiece Carved in White Statuary Marble with Bardiglio Ingrounds

Mimicking the Palladian style of William Jones, a fireplace of good proportions, with a moulded breakfront shelf supported by the frieze and centred by a tablet. This depicts a scallop shell, the symmetry of the organic, tapering flutes drawing the various decorative elements of the chimneypiece together. Either side of the frieze, acanthus leaves billow and the corner blocks are decorated by flowers tightly bunched and finely carved. Bellflower chains, running down each jamb, are held by ribbons and egg and dart ornamental motif frames the opening.
