An early English regency period Greek revival fireplace in Belguim black marble. Of strong elegant but restrained architectural form relying on contour and bold lines for effect. The frieze with triangular closed pediment, flanked by squat rectangular pedestals which cap the jambs. Circa 1805.

The taste for all things Greek in furniture and architecture was at its peak at this time and was heavily influenced by Thomas Hope (1769–1831).
