A late 18th century, early 19th century English Ionic Sienna and white statuary marble fireplace mantel. Circa 1795.
With breakfront shelf decorated with bead and reel and dental mouldings, above the frieze which is centred with a finely carved tablet of Britannia surrounded by cannon, a Lion, (Britain) and other weapons of war, this is flanked by Sienna panels inlaid in white with Greek key frets. The tapering column jambs in statuary marble with finely carved Ionic, volutes topped with Sienna marble blockings with acanthus in white marble. The opening with reeded mouldings entwined with drapery; the whole resting on blocks.
